Founded and led by Nigel Carter, the business has grown from one craftsman’s dedication into one of Western Australia’s most trusted names in heritage roofing, architectural metalwork, and high-end residential roofing.
Nigel began his career in the UK, training in traditional European roofing methods that continue to shape the company’s standard of work today. Over time, he developed a rare blend of skills across slate roofing, lead burning and lead dressing, plain tiling, and complex metal roofing systems. It’s knowledge built through repetition, precision, and an understanding that the smallest details are often the ones that determine how a roof performs for decades.
After relocating to Australia, Nigel brought these specialist techniques to Western Australia and set a new benchmark for workmanship in slate, lead and architectural metal roofing. His reputation was built the same way it still is now. Clear communication, careful problem-solving, and results that look considered from every angle.
As demand grew, so did the team. Over the years, Nigel has personally trained and upskilled many of the tradesmen who work under the Carter Roofing name today. He now works closely with his son Samuel, who he mentored from schoolboy to apprentice and now skilled tradesman, continuing the Carter family’s commitment to quality roofing and long-term standards.
Carter Roofing’s capabilities span slate, clay plain tiles, shingles, copper, brass, zinc, aluminium, stainless steel, leadwork, Colorbond, Greencoat, and architectural cladding systems. With a fully equipped workshop in Wangara and advanced roll-forming and fabrication equipment, we produce custom components in-house. This allows us to deliver cleaner junctions, accurate profiles, and a higher level of consistency across complex rooflines and architectural detailing.
We have contributed to many of Western Australia’s most significant buildings, including St Georges Cathedral, Government House, Fremantle Town Hall, the WA Museum Boola Bardip, Optus Stadium, Yagan Square, along with numerous prestige residential projects. Each one reflects Nigel’s original vision. Bring traditional craftsmanship and modern capability together to deliver roof and cladding systems that stand the test of time.
If you’re planning a new build, restoration, or detailed roof and cladding package, we would be delighted to discuss your scope and share the materials, samples, and experience that set Carter Roofing apart.

Carter Roofing & Slating Pty Ltd is committed to operating responsibly and building a supply chain that is as sustainable as possible. Wherever we can, we prioritise recycling and waste reduction over landfill, and we continually aim to use products that support a lower long-term environmental impact.
Many of the materials we work with are inherently aligned with durability and longevity, which is one of the most important factors in reducing waste over time. Slate is a natural product with exceptional lifespan and stability, and we source from quarries committed to minimising environmental impact. Lead is 100% recyclable and offers an extremely long service life, making it a practical long-term solution when installed correctly. Clay plain tiles are made from simple, natural ingredients and can be recycled for use as aggregate or inert fill. Copper is also fully recyclable, highly durable, and ideally suited to long-life roofing and cladding applications.
Across our materials and processes, Carter Roofing aims to deliver roof and cladding systems that perform for generations while helping reduce the long-term footprint of the built environment.
